'OUTREACH' - We welcome
mixed faith couples and families to our
community. The Rabbi also conducts acts of
prayer at weddings for mixed faith couples, according to the
guidelines of the Liberal Judaism Rabbinic
Conference. Please contact Rabbi Frank Dabba Smith at the
Synagogue (details below) for more information about questions involving Jewish status and acts of
prayer.

KT CLASS IN BERLIN!......On the weekend of 28th June, a week before their service on 5th July, our 2008 Kabbalat Torah class visited the German capital. They had a fascinating time, including over 20 miles of walking! Pictured below are the class with some grown ups who also went along!
ISRAEL AT 60: THE RISE OF
THE HEBREW REPUBLIC......On Tuesday 1st July HWPS played host to Dr
Colin Shindler. Dr Shindler is Reader in Israeli and Modern Jewish Studies at
the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London and
Chairman of its Centre for Jewish Studies. He is also the author of numerous
books about Israel. His 'History of Modern Israel' has just been published to
commemorate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the State.
CHEESE AND WINE.....HWPS has
a growing Cheese and Wine Group. All are welcome. Contact the Synagogue Office

HWPS THIS IS YOUR LIFE! - On Sunday 18th May we celebrated 60 Years of HWPS together! Compered most ably by our current Chairman, Alan Solomon, we looked back from 1948 at some of the memories that have made our community what it is today. This most enjoyable and nostalgic evening included wine, cheese and dessert and a free raffle draw. Thanks to all involved in the organisation of the event. If you were unable to come, a DVD of the evening is available at just £5. Call the Synagogue Office for details.
ART IN MAY - HWPS recently hosted another fascinating Art Show. Local artist Priya Suneel exhibited her new works in the Salter Hall. The show was called Waiting, a collection of paintings of local people going about their daily lives. In addition, Priya addressed our New Forum Group on 30th April and talked about her work and the current exhibition.
HIPPY PURIM! On 21st March the Purim story was read and this year it had a 60's Flower Power theme for HWPS's 60th anniversary. Everyone had a cool, groovy time! Refreshments and Hamantaschen were served!
Chanukah Parties!... On Sunday 9th December we had a Chanukah fest! First the end of Cheder term was celebrated by our kids with Israeli Dancing, Pizza, Latkes and donuts! Thanks to our newly formed F.O.R.S. (Friends of Religion School) committee for organising the morning.
Later that afternoon over 70 people lit the candles together before being entertained by "Curtains up" led by Frances Spiegel. This was followed by a lovely tea, cake and doughnuts! Finally our Rabbi lit the sixth Chanukah candle and everyone joined in Maoz Tzur.
CIVIC SERVICE LAUNCHES SHISHIM
YEAR ......A range of dignitaries,
including the recently installed Mayor of Brent, Harshadbhai Patel, and Rabbi Danny Rich, Executive
Director of Liberal Judaism, attended our Shabbat Civic Service on 2nd June
2007. After the service, our Chairman, Alan Solomon (pictured below with Rabbi
Frank) presented a copy of Siddur Lev Chadash to the Mayor.

Dobson. Milcie, enjoying some of the lovely food provided by our Kiddush
committee for the Civic Service, is the last remaining founder member of the
Synagogue.

On 24th July 2004 the Synagogue bade farewell to its old building. The pictures below capture the final service and kiddush. Now the old building is no more and a new sheltered housing development has been constructed.
